A friendly match between these teams took place in the recreation park, Peterhead, on Saturday, before a large attendance of spectators. Mr. Massie, Peterhead, was referee, and the teams were as follows:-
Peterhead: Pyper; Philip, Jaffray; McIntosh, Davidson, Thomson; Cadger, Buchan, Ross, Scott, Imlach.
Aberdeen A: Mutch; Hannah, Brebner; Davidson, Simpson, Hay; McEchern, Wilson, Dalgarno, Robertson, Paterson.
Peterhead kicked off, but the ball was almost immediately secured by the strangers, and carried two wards Pyper. The forwards got within shooting distance, and for a time the local goal was surrounded. Several shots were sent in but the custodian was watch full, and saved well. For some minutes the visitors had all the play, and a goal fell to them to a rebound from the foot of Mcintosh of Peterhead, Pyper making a splendid effort to save. 1/2 field was bathed in strong sunlight, and as the locals were facing the sun their efforts were considerably handicapped. They settled down, however, and by hard pressing got the ball well into their opponents' territory. They were held in check for a time, but soon broke away, and Buchan equalised with a swift shot. Peterhead were now giving a much better display. They made several fine attacks on Mutch, during one of which they got the lead. Ross shot, and the goalkeeper punted out, Scott catching the ball, and landing it in the net.
To on resuming, the A's broke away, and Pyper was called upon to save, which she did in good style. The visitors continued to press, and were awarded a goal which they certainly did not deserve to get. The ball was shot in, and Pyper caught it just as it had passed the outside of the post. The ball was out of play, but Pyper threw it out immediately after securing it. The whistle did not sound, and the ball was shot across the goal. But again went out of play at the opposite side of the post's, and no intimation coming from the referee, was centred again, Hay scoring from the pass. From this stage on wards the locals had the best of the game, and kept the visitors well in their own ground almost all the time. Buchan, who was playing a good game, dribbled in from the extreme left. He beat the right back, and when within range shot swiftly, and found the net. This was all the scoring, but Peterhead continued to play well, and gave the Aberdeen defenders a hot time.
The Peterhead were clearly worth their win. During the first 10 minutes it looked as if they were to be severely defeated by the A's, but this subsequent display was splendid. The visitors played well and but for the watchfulness of Pyper would certainly have put on a much bigger score.
