HT Score: Aberdeen 0 - 0 St Johnstone

Northern League

20/02/1909 | KO: 15:30

These teams met at Pittodrie Park, Aberdeen, on Saturday afternoon, before an attendance of about 2000 spectators. Teams:-

Aberdeen A: McPherson; Hannah, Stevens; Halkett, J. J. Simpson, Macfarlane; C. V. A. McEchern, Simpson, Dalgarno, Ritchie, Edgar.
St Johnstone: Cant; Cameron, Hannah; Thomson, Simpson, Ogilvy; Fyfe, Bannerman, Riddell, Anderson, MacGregor.
Referee - Mister J. Davidson, Arbroath.

Aberdeen A kicked west and faced the sun. An incursion into Saint Johnston territory by Simpson and McEchern was repulsed by Hannah, and the venue of play was immediately changed to the other end, where Macgregor sent past. St Johnstone pressed for a time, but a foul against rebel relieved Aberdeen, and McEchern went flashing down the wing, but his accurate centre was cleared by Thomson. St Johnstone again attacked, and hesitation in clearing by Stevens looked ominous for the homesters, but he recovered. From a pass by Dalgarno, Edgar got away, and centred well, but the visiting backs shouldered Dalgarno off the ball. After a try by McEchern, Cant was tested with a long high shot from the Aberdeen centre-half, but he cleared well. Some tricky play was witnessed on the Aberdeen right, Simpson and McEchern dribbling and passing splendidly, but laxity on the part of the other forwards kept a goal from coming. St Johnstone then for a time took the game in hand, but, like the home forwards, the van was poor in front of goal. Bannerman said weekly past the wrong side of the post, a yard from goal. Aberdeen's right, ably fed by Halkett, again got going, and Edgar missed a great chance from a cross by McEchern. St Johnstone then had a fruitless corner. Play continued even until the interval.

St Johnstone played briskly on resuming, and Stevens just brought up Riddell in time. R. Simpson followed with a solo effort at Cant, but he did not get near enough to score. Fast end-to-end play ensued, but the home forward line did not make the most of their opportunities, McEchern being the only one to play up to form. St Johnstone forwards made several good attempts to get on the lead, but Aberdeen's defence was very steady. Aberdeen played better to wards the end, but the Perth men packed their goal, and although Cant have a few difficult shots to stop from Dalgarno and McEchern, Aberdeen failed to break through.

Gate, £42.
