Returning Don Kari Arnason strolled through his second Aberdeen debut, scoring a goal in the process, as a strong Pittodrie side saw off Championship new boys Brechin City at Glebe Park.
The Dons almost opened the scoring after just four minutes when a Storey cross was headed on to the bar by captain for the day Adam Rooney. Four minutes later keeper O'Neil came to City's rescue when he parried a Rooney effort for a corner. Tansey's corner fell to Scott McKENNA who made no mistake with a right foot shot.
Crighton twice came close for the home side before Nicky Maynard fired wide after being put through by the lively Scott Wright. The Dons doubled their advantage on the half hour mark when STOREY played a good pass to Rooney whose cross was met perfectly by the head of the former Inverness striker. Layne fired a good effort wide for the home outfit but the first period ended with no further scoring.
HT. Brechin City 0-2 Aberdeen
Ten minutes after the restart Tansey's corner was headed home by new boy ARNASON.
Maynard was then brought down by McLean and ROONEY rattled in number four with a well taken penalty. Substitute Love brought out a good save from Rogers with a long range shot before LOVE pulled one back in 69 minutes with an excellent right foot shot from 25 yards.
With seven minutes remaining a Tansey piledriver of a free kick was pushed for a corner by O'Neil with Wright testing the keeper again from the set piece.
