More impressive was the performance against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Starting in lively fashion, Aberdeen were given the lead by Dennis Wyness, following good work by Ricky Gillies, and Wyness claimed a second goal before the interval, this time courtesy of the build-up work of Malcolm Kpedekpo. The second half saw Aberdeen lose a goal, but they resisted Killie's further efforts and held on to their slender lead.
