Aberdeen "A" Gave Lesson in Thrust
SUPERIOR finishing power together with more constructive middle men gave Aberdeen reserves a well-earnd victory over the Motherwell reserves at Fir Park, Motherwell.
Individually there was not a great deal between the teams, but the Pittodrie attack was sharper at close quarters than the home quintette.
Despite an early Dons goal the homesters held advantage on play in the opening stages, but their too-studied movements could make no impression on the resolute and strongtackling visitors' defence.
The Aberdeen attack gave the home team a lesson in thrust when Smith opened the scoring after eight minutes from a McVean lob.
An injury to Martin, followed a Motherwell equaliser through Russell, appeared to put the Young Dons out of the reckoning, but within minute Smith had them in the lead again.
Although forced back on the defensive for periods of the second half, the visitors actually increased their lead through McVean.
Outstanding service was given by the Pittodrie wing half backs, McVean and Anderson, while Thomson dominated the route down the middle.
Another Aberdeen success was Curran. Time and again the 'keeper's excellent judgment prevented the home attack from scoring. In the attack most credit goes to Smith.
