Juniors Make A Fight Of It

Well Beaten by Young Dons after Plucky Display

THE Aberdeenshire Junior Select team put up a plucky fight against Aberdeen reserves at Pittodrie yesterday evening, although they were beaten 7-4.

They played their best football in the first half. They snatched the lead in eigth minutes and held it until five minutes from the interval.
Two quick goals by Aberdeen "A" at the start of the second half shook the juniors, and although they fought back, they were well beaten in the end.
Pacione and Thomson were the most effective Aberdeen defenders, while Chalmers, the former Aberdeen juvenile again impressed at left half. Gibson was a fast-running raider on the right and Stewart (Loco Works) played well after a somewhat indifferent first half.

Wild Clearance

The juniors' best defenders were Shepherd in goal, Aitken at back, and Wright at left half. Smith (provisionally signed for Aberdeen) at inside right gave a sound display.
The juniors took the lead in eight minutes, when Smith took advantage of a wild clearance by Merchant to head home. Five minutes from the interval, Stewart equalised.
Two minutes after the start of the second half, Smith put the Young Dons ahead and six minutes later Muir made the total three. Shand, the juniors' centre half, sent through his own goal, and a nice movement on the Aberdeen left wing ended in Gibson adding a fifth.
Two defensive blunders by the Young Dons enabled Gavin and Smith to reduce the home teams lead - Harper, the juniors' right back, put through his own goal and although Middleton got a smart fourth counter for the select, Muir made the Young Dons total seven.
