Aberdeen 3 - 3 Falkirk

Scottish Reserve League Cup Group B
Aberdeen scorers: Dunbar, Dunbar, Kelly.

14/03/1953 | KO: 15:00

Kelly Makes A Bright Debut

The Reserves last Saturday made the mistake of easing up before the end of the game and paid the penalty. They were leading by 3-0 and should have won comfortably but took things too easily in the latter stages of the game. These tactics were fatal aganst a go-ahead team like Falkirk A who never gave up and deserve great credit for a fighting finish that earned the visitors a draw. The loss of that point is going to make things a bit more difficult for the Young Dons in the league cup competition. They must now go all out for a win in the return match.

The crowd at Pittodrie on Saturday for Aberdeen "A's" Reserve League Cup game with Falkirk "A" came away with two pleasant facts in mind - that the Dons had drawn with Hibs. and that the Pittodrie club had found a really promising youngster in George Kelly, the inside left from Banks o' Dee.
It was not Kelly’s fault that the result was a 3-3 draw. He played a good game and will improve with full-time training. Once he develops the necessary speed he will be a candidate for a place in the first team.
The game itself wasn’t too inspiring. The Young Dons should never have allowed the visitors to equalise. They were leading 3-0 midway through the second half, and made the fatal mistake of slackening off.
Wallace impressed at centre-half, and Dunbar showed a big improvement at centre-forward.
Honours in the Falkirk team went to Ralston, who was always dangerous at left half, and Barclay the left wing.
Kelly opened the scoring for Aberdeen, and Dunbar followed up with two goals in the second half. Palo (pen), Brown and Millar replied for the visitors.
