AS an appetiser for this week's Scottish Cup-tie against Dundee at Dens Park the Dons display at Kirkcaldy lacked the right ingredients. There was not nearly enough fizz about the team as a whole.
Perhaps the regular first team members were not taking undue risks in view ot the importance of Saturday's game, I certainly hope so, for they will have to step up considerably on this form to survive the Dundee visit.
Five reserves were brought into the team against Raith Rovers. They were given a chance to issue a challenge to the regulars but of the quintet only Frank Watson and Alec Young were really impressive.

THE defence as a whole was too easily out-manoeuvred. Only the stout play of Watson and Young, combined with the reckless and inept finishing of the Kirkcaldy forwards prevented Aberdeen being beaten more decisively.
The Dons' forwards did not receive much co-operation from the wing half-backs, but that does not altogether explain the lack of team-work and driving power in attack.
Rodger tried hard in the middle and Boyd made good use of the ball on the few occasions he received it. The inside forwards never seemed to get into their stride, particularly Yorston, and there will have to be a decided improvement in this department at Dens Park.

ABERDEEN'S only goal, organised by Baird and Yorston and scored by Rodger, was one of the few attractive passages of football produced by the Dons.
During the ninety minutes there was an irritating lack of energy and planning about the Dons’ football. They are set a hard task against Dundee and it is to be hoped that the players recover their joie de vivre during the week.
To strike a brighter note, the players who missed the Raith Rovers match through injury will be fit for Saturday.
Martin had a damaged side. Shaw was suffering from a slight groin strain and Harris from an ankle hurt received last Wednesday.
Thomson was being rested with a view to today's game against British Army at Newcastle, while Pearson also had a day off.
