Aberdeen were out-played in the first half and lucky not to be a goal behind at half-time. Billy DODDS put the Dons ahead in the 66th minute as a result of a defensive blunder. Andy Tod failed to clear a Stephen Glass lob and the ball fell to an unmarked Billy Dodds who slammed the ball past goalkeeper Ian Westwater.
At the other end Jim Leighton was making some brilliant stops from Andy Tod and Andy Smith, and denied Dunfermline the lead on many occaisions. Dunfermline showed fighting spirit however to come back in the 81st minute. An Ivo Den Bieman free kick was headed out by a defender straight to Stewart Petrie who had come on as a subsitute seven minutes earlier. He rifled a beauty into the corner of the Aberdeen net from 20 yards.
