Dons unlucky against Gers

Aberdeen were very unlucky in picking up at least a point against Rangers tonight, going down 2-1 with Derek Young being sent off for the second time this season.

Aberdeen got off to the best possible start, when after just 4 minutes they took the lead. A great cross from youngster Kevin McNaughton found the right foot of Arild Stavrum, and the Norwegian striker made it 1-0 to the Dons.

Aberdeen had the bulk of possesion, and nearly made it 2-0 in the 19th minute when a Derek Young forced Rangers keeper Jesper Christiansen into a save. Four minutes later Rangers had their first real opportunity, when a Kenny Miller effort, similar to the midweek goal he scored against Monaco, was brilliantly saved by Ryan Esson.
In the 34th minute, Arild Stavrum had a great opportunity to score, he looked to be brought down by Barry Ferguson, but referee Mike McCurry waved the Don's claims away. Five minutes before the break, Kenny Miller made it 1-1. The goal came very much against the run of play, Mols finding Miller, and the on-form Scotland striker finished well.

Four minutes after the break, Michael Mols made it 2-1 to the visitors. Mols found space and fired in to give Rangers the advantage.
A horrific challange by Fernando Ricksen on Darren Young should have led to a sending off, but Mike McCurry didn't spot it. Robbie Winters tried a shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball was well held by Christiansen. Skovdahl brought on new siging Alex Di-Rocco for Chris Clark with 32 minutes remaining, and that nearly paid off straight away when he set up Young with a chance, but Christiansen saved well again. Ryan Esson made a great save in the 67th minute to deny Michael Mols a second goal, and just one minute later Derek Young was sent off for his second bookable offence. The game finished 2-1 to the visitors, leaving the Dons four points behind Dunfermline, and in tenth place.
