Aberdeen started to take control and looked the more likely to add to the scoring without creating too many clear cut chances. Zander Diamond has settled well in his first game back and the Red Army will be hoping it's not too long before he's back in first team action. The Dons went close in the closing minutes of the first half when first of all Foster missed a great chance in the 43rd minute. Morrison broke on the left and sent in a deep cross that was knocked back across goal by Stewart and then blazed over the bar by Foster. Two minutes later Muirhead looked to be through one-on-one with the keeper, but the goalie was out quickly and smothered the ball as Muirhead pulled the trigger.
Aberdeen were much more effective after the interval and levelled on the hour mark with a magnificent strike from John Stewart. Morrison was the provider as the full back sent in a deep cross from the left that found Stewart at the back post. The striker hit the ball on the volley first time and sent it screaming into the Hearts net to drag Aberdeen back into the game. Ten minutes later substitute Kiely went close as the dons started to take control of the match. The youngster firing over in the 70th minute.
The goal was only delayed by five minutes however as John Stewart netted his and the Dons second. Foster had made a great run before cutting inside, beating a couple of defenders and then setting up Stewart who gratefully placed the ball beyond the keeper and into the net. Aberdeen held on to their lead comfortably and could have added to their tally as Foster and Stewart exploited the spaces at the back as Hearts looked for an equaliser. The Dons will be happy enough with the three points and delighted that Diamond completed the 90 minutes.
