Heart of Midlothian 0 - 1 Aberdeen

North East Cup
Aberdeen scorers: O'Hagan.

14/10/1908 | KO:

The Edinburgh team were distinctly unlucky to be beaten by Aberdeen at Dundee yesterday in their North-Eastern Cup tie, which had to be replayed on account of the fiasco at Aberdeen. Play at the outset was in favour of the Hearts, for whom Walker and Hynds were prominent, Cole had a chance, but shot against an Aberdeen back. Aberdeen had most of the play in this half, and well deserved the goal scored by O'Hagan near half-time. There was no more scoring in this period. Hearts rearranged their team, but with no better result and had the Tynecastle team had a capable pivot they would have won. Walker and Scott gave forwards many opportunities, but to no purpose, and when they shot they found a good goalkeeper n Mutch. The game this half was all in favour of Hearts, and Walker and Cole were very prominent. Aberdeen broke away now and then, only to meet a good defence. Final result :- Aberdeen, one goal; Hearts, nothing. The drawings totalled £70 and represented an attendance of 2500

The replay of the interrupted match between Aberdeen and Hearts, but in the North-eastern Cup competition, to place on Dens Park, Dundee, yesterday. Teams:-

Aberdeen: Mutch; Colman, Hume; Halkett, McIntosh, Wilson; Blackburn, Muir, McNair, O'Hagan, Lennie.
Hearts: Muir; Collins, Philip; Nellies, Hynds, Dixon; Sinclair, Walker, Giblin, Scott, Cole.
Referee - Mr. John Bell, Dundee.

Hearts kicked off, and almost at once the "Wasps" bore down upon Muir. O'Hagan sent in a good shot, which went over the bar. For a time either team could gain any advantage, play being confined to the centre of the field. On the whole, however, Aberdeen appeared to be getting the better of the game, but the Hearts gave Mutch many anxious moments. Lennie forced a corner, which seemed likely to prove fruitful, but Muir cleared splendidly. A determined attack was instituted against Hearts' goal, but without effect. Twice Cole just missed scoring, the ball on both occasions striking the post. One about 5 minutes from the interval, O'Hagan finished up a spirited attack on Muir by scoring the only goal of the match. This helped to enlivened matters a little, and the maroons retaliated, but to no purpose.

During the second. Hearts' got more of the play, and deserved to score more than once. With an open goal and no one to beat save Mutch, Hynds sent the ball over the bar. During the last few minutes of the game, shots simply rained in on Mutch, who defended splendidly.
