Aberdeen 2 - 1 St. Johnstone

THE Dons are out of the Dewar Shield. Although they beat St Johnstone 2-1 at Pittodrie yesterday evening, the Perth team wins with an aggregate of three goals to two.

The Saints deserved to go forward. It was only a last-minute goal headed by Baird from a corner from Pearson that carried Aberdeen to victory last night.
The honours of the game went to the Perth defence. In the second half, when the Dons staged an all-out blitz, Johnstone and his team-mates dropped the "iron curtain."
The Aberdeen forwards could do everything but score. While the Muirton Park defenders deserve full credit, at the same time the Pittodrie forwards must be criticised for their lack of finishing power.
The Dons, who started off with a two-goal deficit, opened the scoring in fifteen minutes, when Williams beat Brash and crossed accurately. Baird nodded the ball down and Stenhouse prodded it into the net.
That goal finished the scoring until five minutes from the end, when Brown netted for Saints with a glorious drive after he had dispossessed McLaughlin.

,b>Hopes Shattered,/p> This goal came in one of St Johnstone's fleeting raids, but it shattered Aberdeen's hopes of saving the game. Baird's counter with sixty seconds to go served only to put a better complexion on the all-over result.
