DONS FAIL AT GOAL

SHEER carelessness lost Aberdeen the points at Ibrox in a North-Eastern League game. On play Rangers were superior, but with the chances they had the Dons could have won comfortably.

There was slackness in the Pittodrie defence when Rangers got their goals, but it was in attack that Aberdeen's weakness lay. The finishing was wretched, Pattiilo being the chief sinner.
His goal in the first half was well taken, but after the interval he should have netted at least twice. Close on time he was put in possession only a few yards out, but sent feebly past with only the 'keeper to beat.
In fairness to the centre, however, it must be stated that he a received severe knock before the interval which affected his play afterwards, and he was poorly supported.

Good Tackling

The Dons' defence, apart from loose play when Kinnear and Grant scored for Rangers, did well. Johnstone might have averted the first goal, but he had several brilliant saves, one in particular from Smith, the Ibrox leader.
Cooper and Dyer tackled well. In an overworked half-back line Dunlop excelled. Gavin was none too steady, while Taylor suffered through Howe's ineffectiveness.
Dryden was the Dons' best forward. The inside trio were poor. Fred Taylor on the right was mastered throughout by Nimmo.
Rangers have some very promising young players, particularly Dougall at left half and Rutherford at outside right.
