Aberdeen 3 - 1 Falkirk

It took the Dons, who are now League leaders, a long time to make victory certain against Falkirk, whom they beat 3-1 at Pittodrie. This was due mainly to the fact that the Dons treated the opposition far too lightly. In addition, there was a lack of snap and finishing power in attack. Territorially, the Dons had a big advantage, and were certainly worthy winners in the end, but it was only after Falkirk equalised following a mistake by Cooper that they realised the danger of defeat, and put more zest into their work.

Apart from Cooper's slip, the defence showed reliability all through the game. Johnstone had his anxious moments, but he never faltered. Cooper had a good first half, but Dyer was the outstanding back afield.
The middle division was strong in defence and powerful In attack. No wing half compared with Taylor. It was his best game for a long time. Strong in the tackle, he went through with the ball cleverly, and initiated many advances which should have brought better reward.
On his form this season, Dunlop has no superior in the League as a pivot, and a problem confronts Manager Halliday now that Gavin is reported fit. Thomson had a good game before being injured, and was serviceable even when playing outside left in the second period.
Chief interest in the attack was centred on the two juveniles, Buchan and Cruickshank. It was the latter's lirst game. His lack of height told against him, but he showed clever control, and knows how to part with the ball to advantage. He will improve with experience. Buchan was a little disappointing compared with previous displays, yet showed that has the ability to make a good inside forward.
Versatile Ancell was the best winger and his thrusts on the right always spelt danger to the opposition. Pattillo gave another impressive display, and his goal was a masterpiece. Moir was disappointing.
Of a very mediocre Falkirk team, Ogilvle and Brown in the rear and Murray and Sharp on the lelt were best.
