Montrose Well Beaten At Pittodrie

LOCAL JUNIOR'S " HAT TRICK."

Aberdeen "A" look like building a goalscoring record in the Aberdeenshire and District league competition. At Pittodrie last night they beat Montrose by 5 goals to 0, but it was not until after the interval that they found their scoring boots, although previous to that Sutherland had accounted for some fine saving. In the opening period Montrose gave a spirited display, their defence, and especially Philip and Geddes at back, giving a splendid account of themselves. If their goal was fortunate to escape downfall, Montrose had much credit in being on level terms at the end of a goal-less first, half. After the interval Mackie and Forbes, in the Aberdeen attack, changed places, and the visitors' defence had rather a trying time of it. Forbes opened the scoring from a fine pass by Watt, and registered other two goals in quick succession to obtain the "hat trick." Montrose often attacked, but with the exception of a hard drive by Massie, which was brilliantly deflected over the bar by Lawrie, they were weak in front of goal. Robertson obtained a fourth goal for Aberdeen, and Stevenson worked through to finish the scoring. Superior speed and combination told its tale in the game, but Montrose were unfortunate in at least failing to score. For Aberdeen the outstanding players were Smith McBoyle, Lees, Mackie, Robertson and Forbes. Montrose were well served by Sutherland, Philip. Geddes, Wright, Hogg and Massie.
