Celtic 2 - 0 Aberdeen

The postponed League match between these clubs was brought off at Celtic Park, Glasgow, yesterday, when £172 was taken at the gate and stands, representing an attendance of 6000. McNair and Weir were absent from the home side, while Aberdeen were without Lennie. The first half slightly favoured the Celts, who, although playing a pretty game in the open, were not very deadly at goal, and it was well on before Somers, accepting a pass from Quinn, beat Mutch from eighteen yards. Following this reverse, the visitors were seen to greater advantage, and the Celtic defenders had as much as they could accomplish to keep out the Aberdeen front line. Celts crossed over leading one-nothing. In the second portion the Aberdeen forwards were never much in evidence, and it was a case of the Aberdeen defending and Celtic attacking. Colman and Hume were in good form, and it was near the finish before Quinn burst through and scored his side's second goal. Result :- Celtic, two; Aberdeen, nothing.

Aberdeen travelled to Glasgow yesterday to engage in a Scottish League fixture with Celtic at park head. Both teams showed slight changes, McEchern taking the place of Lenny, who is being rested; while on the Celtic side McNair and Weir were absentees in the back division. Their places were taken by Craig and Hay and the vacancy at left half was filled by Dodds, a Carluke player, who has already appeared at Parkhead. Glasgow maintains its reputation for supporting mid-week football, and when the teams turned out, as follows, there was a large crowd of half-holidayers:-

Celtic: Adams; Craig, Hay; Young, Loney, Torrance; Kivlichen, McMenemy, Quinn, Somers, Hamilton.
Aberdeen: Mutch; Colman, Hume; Wilson, McIntosh, Low; Blackburn, Simpson, Niblo, O'Hagan, McEchern.

Celtic kicked off, and play opened quietly; but the Celtic forwards soon got going, and Mutch was kept busy with shots from Kivlichen, McMenemy, and Hamilton. The Aberdeen goalkeeper, however, saved splendidly. The Northern men improved, and Niblo got a fine chance, but Loney caught him up in time. Celtic then opened out, and Mutch was busy, but failed to stop a deceptive shot from Somers from Quinn's pass, and Celtic scored. Niblo, O'Hagan, and Simpson then gave the Celtic defence a hard struggle, O'Hagan missing a rare opening. Hamilton was injured, and afterward slipped badly. On play, Aberdeen were now deserving of the equaliser, and had hard lines.

On resuming, play opened very quietly at first. The first to get the way was Quinn, who was easily Celtic's best forward. Aberdeen spoiled their good work in the open by bad finishing, and worked at least to have equalised. Niblo and O'Hagan did many smart things. Aberdeen's defence also shown, and Quinn had a hard time of it. It was only the grand play of Loney and Hay that kept Aberdeen out. Quinn scored a second goal for Celtic 6 minutes from the finish. Gate, all in, £172.

Quinn was the best player on the field. The best players for Aberdeen were Mutch, McIntosh, Niblo, and O'Hagan.
