full time score from Borough Briggs
Elgin City 1 Aberdeen 0
8 mins Moore pen
Aberdeen were defeated 1-0 this evening in their second pre-season game.
The Dons lined up with Brown in goal. Chris Clark started at right back, Andrew Considine was given the left back berth and Russell Anderson and Gavin Rae were in central defence. Jonny Hayes played wide right, Issac Osbourne and Rob Milsom were partnered in central midfield with Mitch Megginson on the left. Up front Scott Vernon was paired with Michael Paton.
After a slow start the home side took the lead. Russell Anderson was adjudged to have fouled Stuart Leslie inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Moore stepped up and beat Brown to give Elgin the lead.
The Dons eventually started getting into the game. After 15 minutes Mitch Megginson went close after a good run. His shot went just past the post. Mitch was probably the Dons best player on Saturday at Arbroath and again tonight he was looking very sharp.
On 19 minutes Hayes showed some great close control. The Dons new boy was able to get a shot away but his effort was saved. A minute later Scott Vernon had a header which was tipped over by Neil Duffy.
Just after the half hour mark Issac Osbourne had a rare chance. Isaac is not known for his goalscoring! His shot this time just went over the bar. A good effort though. Duffy produced another good save three minutes later when he pushed the ball over the bar after a shot from Mitch Megginson. The keeper went on to have a string of fine saves.
Straight after the half time interval Aberdeen had a chance. The ball fell to Hayes but his shot was saved. Hayes looked lively throughout and although he was on the right wing he was always willing to go and look for the ball to try and make things happen.
On 52 minutes Isaac Osbourne had another great shot but it was well saved by Duffy. On the hour mark Aberdeen came even closer to scoring. Considine put in a good low cross, Mitch Megginson met it and his first time shot came off the post.
By this point Jason Brown was a virtual spectator.
On 62 minutes Craig Brown made the first substitutions of the night. Josh Magennis, Peter Pawlett and Rory Fallon come on for Russell Anderson, Jonny Hayes and Scott Vernon. Russell handed the captains armband to Andrew Considine. Then on 71 minutes Ryan Jack replaced Andy. This time the armband was handed to Gavin Rae.
73 minutes gone and another close thing for Aberdeen. Michael Paton had a shot from the edge of the box which just went wide. Michael had a good game and along with Mitch Megginson they were the Dons best players.
With 10 minutes to go Mitch picked up a knock and it looked like he would have to come off. With no subs left the Dons were going to have to play the final 10 with 10 men. Thankfully Mitch was able to return after some treatment.
The Dons continued to push for an equaliser. On 83 minutes Rob Milsom had a shot which was again well saved by Duffy. It was all Aberdeen in the second half but they could not find the net.
Team: Brown, Clark, Anderson, (Magennis 62) Rae, Considine (Jack 71), Hayes (Pawlett 62), Osbourne, Milsom, Megginson, Vernon (Fallon 62), Paton.
