County Cup Win at Buckie.
There was a large attendance at Victoria Park, Buckie, last night when Buckie Thistle met Aberdeen in the first home-and-home final match of the Aberdeenshire County Cup. The Highland Leaguers gave the Dons, who were strongly represented, a good game. Thistle were handicapped by an injury to their dashing leader, MacLennan. Buckie kicked off, and the ball travelled rapidly from end to end. A corner came to Buckie, but Mackenzie sent the flag-kick behind. Later Mackenzie sparkled on the wing, and Cumming saved from Clark. At the other end the home goal had a narrow escape when the ball bobbed past with Wood out of goal. MacLennan was injured in an attack and retired for a short period. He was a passenger for the rest of the game. Both goals were visited frequently, but the defences held out. Towards the close of the half there were some exciting moments at the home goal, but the keen Aberdonians were outwitted by the Thistle defence, and at half-time there was no scoring.Wood's Mistake.
Aberdeen attacked on resuming, but were repelled. Clark had a fine run, but was hampered in shooting. Wood held a header from Robertson, and immediately the ball travelled to the other end when Cumming had to down to a shot from Clark. After fifteen minutes Robertson scored for Aberdeen, Wood making a mistake. Thistle were hard pressed, and gave away corners. Aberdeen almost scored again, but the homesters packed their goal and cleared. Donald, however, increased Aberdeen's score with a fine shot, which beat Wood all the way. Towards the end Aberdeen played with confidence and took things easy. There was no further scoring.Source: Press & Journal, 20th April 1933
