Aberdeen Retain The County Trophy

Aberdeen "A" have won the Aberdeenshire Cup five years in succession. On Saturday they defeated Fraserburgh in the second of the home-and-home finals by seven goals to one. Fraserburgh commenced in promising fashion, and might have put up a better show had Bain scored from a penalty. After this failure to equalise in the early stages of the game, the visitors lost confidence, and Aberdeen "A" won just as easily as the score represents. The outstanding player on the field was McLaren, the home right half. This player, provided he steers clear of serious injury, ought to do well at Pittodrie. Possessing a good turn of speed, he controls the ball well, while his passing is the essence of accuracy. He is a fine shot, too. He will certainly be a strong candidate for a place in the first team next season. Judging by his display on Saturday, however, I got the impression that he would make a good inside forward. Merrie, it is worthy to note, has scored three goals in each of his two appearances for the "A" team at Pittodrie. He is dangerous when the ball is in front of him, but he fails to gather a ball sent forward to him.
I got the impression that Fraserburgh would be a good team in their own class. They have a very good goalkeeper in McIntosh, while McRobbie and Bain are reliable backs. There is room for improvement at half-back, while Birnie's experience is of value to the attack. The "Broch" have a coming player in Davidson at inside left.

In the second and last of the home-to-home finals in the Aberdeenshire Cup competition, Aberdeen "A" easily defeated Fraserburgh by 7 goals to 1 at Pittodrie. Fraserburgh had won the previous game by 2-1, so that over the two meetings Aberdeen claimed a majority of five goals. Wilson headed the first goal for Aberdeen in fifteen minutes, and subsequently except for intermittent raids by their forwards, Fraserburgh were kept defending. They were awarded a penalty, but Bain (A.) shot over the bar. After thirty-five minutes, Merrie accepted a pass from McLaren to score a lovely second goal. Wilson quickly headed a third, and before the interval Edward scored a fourth. Scott had a good try for Fraserburgh on resuming, but Aberdeen again took the upper hand and Merrie scored a fifth. A free kick by McRobbie was cleared by McSevich, and then Davidson got through to score cleverly for the visitors. In the later stages Aberdeen were much superior and McLaren scored with a terrific shot following which Merrie brought the total up to seven.

After the match the trophy was presented the Aberdeen club Mr J. S. B. Mackay, president of the Aberdeenshire F.A. Mr William Philip, chairman the Aberdeen Club, accepted, and Baillie Low, Fraserburgh, congratulated the winners..
