Northern League Notes

The Aberdeen are to be congratulated on the appearance they made at Dundee on Saturday, and we can only express the hope that it is but the forerunner of another good win on Saturday first. But that is another story. The Aberdeen had a powerful eleven on the field, the most powerful that has represented them this season, we believe, and they did so well that we think they could be safely trusted with the task that is before them on Saturday. The score 3-0 in Aberdeen's favour shows that there was only one team in the game, and that one not the Lochee. We admit that it was a particularly easy task the Aberdeen had, but they have shown so erratic form of late that it was quite on the cards that they would have been defeated by the oft-despised Lochee. Such an ending, however, was not for the Aberdeen, and their win should help to add to the interest of their meeting the Dundee A, and at the same time bring in an additional pound or two to the exchequer. The Aberdeen forwards were in fine fettle, and showed up extremely well their shooting being particularly good, and what is better, we believe they shot on every occasion when there was the leas likelihood of the ball finding the net. The halfs broke up the Lochee's attack on every occasion, fed their forwards well, and played the half-back game as it should be played. They did not neglect to try and shoot at goal on their own behalf too, as witness Sangster scoring the Aberdeen's third goal. The half-backs did so well that the work of the backs and goalkeeper was reduced to a minimum, but what little they had to do was done well.

These tams met in a Northern League fixture at St Margaret's Park, Lochee. Teams - Lochee United: Murray; Harvey, A Morris; Smith, Milne, McInally; Blair, Downey, McInroy, Westwater, J. Morris. Aberdeen: Barrett; J. Mackie, McNicol; Sangster, Strang, Low; Owen, Barron, C. Mackie, McAulay, Johnston. Referee - Mr. Phillip, Dunfermline.

The visitors started operations towards the north goal, and at once assumed the aggressive. A few minutes after the start Johnston secured the first point for the Aberdeen club. The homesters gradually beat back the attack, and Barrett was tested, but the ex-Dundee keeper cleared effectively. The Blues secured a corner, which, however, proved fruitless. The ball hovered in front of the Aberdeen goal for a time, but ultimately McInroy sent the leather behind. The game continued to be evenly contested, with Aberdeen having a slight advantage. Harvey charged Barron within the penalty line, but the referee only granted a foul kick, which was fruitless. The United paid a visit to their opponents' goal, but Westwater's parting shot was weak. A minute later Milne caused the goalkeeper to handle, but Barrett was equal to the occasion. The interval found the visitors in front of Murray.

The second half was commenced without leaving the field, and the visitors at once took up the attack. The ball remained in front of Murray's charge for a time until McAulay got his foot on the leather, and drove home a second goal for the Whites. Aberdeen continued to have the best of the game and Sangster soon registered a third point. Lochee once more visited Barrett's end, but as on the previous occasions, without result. The Whites retaliated strongly, and Owen had a chance to increase his team's score, but the ex-Hibs man drove past. McInroy got off, but after a run up field was deprived of the ball. Towards the close the United looked as if they were to secure a goal, but the finish found the Aberdeen lads victorious.
