Although the young Dons started well Hearts had the better chances in the opening exchanges and Lukasik in goal continued his fine form with two good saves. It was the visitors though who took the lead. Declan McManus did really well to hold the ball up before laying it off into the path of the on rushing Ryan Fraser. He ran in on goal and finished in off the post. It was the wingers second goal of the season.
Disappointingly though Aberdeen conceded an equaliser just before the break when Callum Paterson scored.
The second half was also very even and a tight affair but it was the home side who got the only goal. A Fraser Mullen free kick was played in and Callum Paterson's effort was deflected in. Aberdeen had their chances. McManus had a shot cleared off the line and The Dons should have had a penalty when Dean Carse was taken down in the box. It looked a stonewall penalty. It the final minutes the Dons had a corner which was played in and Jamie Masson was really unlucky not to score with a header.
Neil Cooper spoke to RedWeb after the game "I am pleased with the boys efforts this afternoon. Their attitude was first class and we certainly did not deserve to lose the game. We had a few players away on international duty and Clark Robertson was injured. Although we fielded a young team we more than matched a good Hearts side."
