After the break the Dons eventually went ahead when Declan McManus and Dean Carse linked up. McManus from the left played in Carse who beat his man with a fantastic little spin. He then calmly placed the ball past the goalkeeper.
After that the Dons dominated possession but failed to create any clear cut chances. The Motherwell keeper had a couple of good saves. Robertson, Storie, O'Neill and Grimmer all had openings but on a number of occasions Motherwell defenders put in some excellent blocks.
At the other end the Dons defence looked in control but had to rely on Lukasik to make two excellent saves at vital periods in the game. With the match still in the balance the Dons thankfully managed to get a crucial second with five minutes remaining. From a corner Rumsby headed the ball back into the danger area. The ball eventually fell to substitute Kieran Gibbons, who with his first touch of the game, coolly passed the ball into the net from the edge of the box.
In injury time McManus rounded off a fine individual performance with a superb solo goal. He ran down the left wing before cutting inside and curling the ball into the top hand corner. Motherwell just had time for a consolation when McGachie came in at the back post to score.
The young Dons are in action again at Balgownie next Friday against Dundee United. Kick off is at 1.00pm.
