Neil Cooper made just one change to the side which lost to Inverness CT last week, captain Michael Dunlop was fit again and replaced young Rose in the centre of defence. Cammy Smith was meant to be teaming up with the Scotland U17s yesterday but the Scotland management team kindly gave him permission to play. Cammy had fantastic game. Although the weather was much better than it has been in recent weeks the pitch at Balgownie was very dry which made it very difficult for both teams to pass the ball about.
The Dons took the lead on 18 minutes when Ryan Fraser played a great ball into the box and Stephen O'Neill teed up top scorer Declan McManus who finished well. A well worked goal. The Dons deservedly got a crucial second just before half time. Scott Rumsby played a fantastic forward pass to Cammy Smith who showed great composure to control the ball and then loft it over the keeper. Another good goal.
St Mirren started strongly in the second half and were given a great opportunity to get themselves back into the game when referee Watt award them a penalty for an incident right on the edge of the box. Danny Rogers though produced a quite brilliant save, diving full length to his left to tip the ball round the post.
St Mirren continued to push forward but the Dons were looking the more likely to score when they hit on the break. Cammy Smith sent Ryan Fraser clear but his shot went just past the post. McManus had a chance at the back post before Cammy Smith put the game beyond doubt on 77 minutes. Ryan Fraser played a clever ball into the box which Smith ran onto and comfortably beat the keeper when one on one. Smith could and maybe should have had a hat-trick but Hall saved well and Storie also had a good chance from almost an identical position but again Hall stood up well.
