Students Shine At Pittodrie

Aberdeen University gained a well-merited 2-0 victory over Aberdeen Reserves in an Aberdeen and District League fixture at Pittodrie yesterday. There were 3000 spectators, and the ground was in a quaggy state. The students adapted themselves much better to the conditions than did the home team. Their defence was always solid and sure, and their attack sprightly in the field and dangerous at goal. C. P. Murray opened the scoring and A. Smith added another goal before the interval for the University, whose superiority in the period was not seriously challenged. In the second half Aberdeen frequently attacked, but their forwards did not combine well, and their speed and nippiness compared unfavourably with the aggressive tactics of the University forwards, whose vigorous thrusts were always a source of worry to the Aberdeen defence.

On the university side, Dr. Anderson and D. R. Dyan played well at back. W. E. Milne at centre-half was one of the outstanding players on the field, especially in the first half when his tackling and long swinging passes to his forwards contributed largely to the success of his side. C.P. Murray also played well at left-half. In the forward line A. Smith was always a dangerous forward, and he had a particularly clever partner in F. Alexander.
On the Aberdeen side, Stewart acquitted himself well in goal, and Colman was always sound at back. Craigmyle, of East End, who figured at right-half in the opening period, showed promise, but J. Wright was the best of the Aberdeen half-backs, especially after resuming his own position at right-half. The forwards did not take kindly to the heavy ground and never worked well together, the best of the line being Watson and Morton, but the outside left did not get enough of the ball. Their success yesterday puts the University on the lead in the league competition.
