Deeply upset by criticism by supporters of his play, despite having been a stalwart of the first team for several years, Rankin eventually told the club that he wanted to give up playing. The board put him on the transfer list, even though this meant that he would miss out on a due benefit match, and he was transferred to Cowdenbeath in season 1924/1925 for a fee of £1000. During that season he switched from the front line to centre-half. Name - Andrew Douglas Rankin Died - Aberdeen, 13th September 1965
