Celtic 1 - 0 Aberdeen

The Celtic had Aberdeen at Glasgow, before fully 3000 spectators. The home team monopolised the play in the opening stages, but the Aberdeen me set up a dour defence, Anderson proving himself a brilliant custodian. Both sets of forwards were eager, but the shooting was wretched. Early in the second half McMenemy scored the only goal in he game with a neat header, from a fine cross by Browning. The Celtic deserved their victory, but Aberdeen put up a great fight.

Aberdeen had a splendid reception at Parkhead, where they met the Celtic. All through the game was fast and exciting. Aberdeen put up a splendid fight, and deserved to divide the points instead of losing them by the only goal scored. The early stages showed that the Celtic defence had just enough to do to hold the Aberdeen forwards, who had numerous fine tries. The Celtic forwards also did well, but they were cleverly held by the Aberdeen backs. The game ranged from goal to goal, but neither centre forwards could get the ball through. Anderson, the Aberdeen goalkeeper, frequently took the high by his clever saving. The second period was more than half through when the Celtic scored. Browning failed to pick up a pass, but, quickly recovering, he forced a corner. As a result of the corner kick, McMenemy sent the ball past Anderson. A few minutes later Aberdeen almost drew level, Ambler having a good try, which deserved a better fate than to go past.
