Celtic 'A' Lose League Leadership
Aberdeen "A" scored a splendid victory over Celtic "A" in an Alliance League match before 10,000 spectators at Pittodrie on Saturday. By so doing they deprived Celtic of the League leadership. It was a hard-fought game, especially the first half, when there was little between the teams. After the Interval, however, the Young Dons showed marked superiority, and added four goals to their total.Grand Work
Scott led the home attack with dash, while each of the other forwards put in some grand work. Devine, Gavin, and Ritchie made a strong half line combination, while Temple and Newton impressed as defenders. Johnstone brought off some fine saves in goal. Celtic "A" were the better served in defence, for had it not been for grand play by Foly, Boyle and Hogg, jun., the Young Dons' total might well have been greater. Carruth and Fagan were the pick the forwards.Thrills After Interval
After a spell of even play, the Young Dons took the lead with twenty-two minutes gone, Scott forcing his way through the defence to beat Foley. Celtic 'A' drew level from the re-centre, however, Mclnally taking advantage of a mix-up in the Young Dons' defence. Both teams fought strongly to get on the lead, but the defences held out. After the interval, the Young Dong came away strongly, and, with seventeen minutes gone, took the lead through Lang. Three minutes later Scott added a third, and after half an hour Ritchie scored direct from a free kick. With only five minutes to go Celtic "A" were rewarded for their strenuous efforts when Divers beat Johnstone. Just on time, however, Lang restored the Young Dons' three-goal lead.REMARKABLE SCENE AT PITTODRIE
There was remarkable scene at the conclusion of the Alliance match between Aberdeen and Celtic reserves at Pittodrie Saturday. As the teams left the field two players came to blows, and several others joined in. There was good deal of jostling and pushing before order was restored.Source: Press & Journal, 5th October 1936
