Championship Chances Still Bright
Aberdeen A continued on their winning way when the defeated Q. P. Strollers by three goals to one ini an Alliance match at Hampden. The Young Dons' chances of retaining the championship are still bright, despite the close attentions of the Parkhead reserves. The Hampden side started off well, and following good play by Duncan and McCracken, Hall shot past when well placed. Bennett was later called upon to deal with shots from McCracken and Lawrie. The Young Dons took the lead when Warnock got possession from a home clearance. Racing off, he beat the backs, and easily sent the ball out of Thomson's reach. Near the interval the Strollers drew level, Hall beating Bennett from twenty yards. The Young Dons kept up a continual attack for a time after the restart, but poor finishing spoiled their chances. Warnock, however, was a clever winger, and sent over numerous dangerous crosses. Play was all in favour of the visitors, and when Lang gave them the lead it was well deserved. The Strollers fell away, and the Young Dons were easily masters of the situation. Near the end Warnock sent in a great shot which struck the crossbar. Thomson in clearing kicked the ball against Highet, the right back, and it bounded off him into the net. The Young Dons retired worthy winners.Source: Press & Journal, 1st February 1937
