Hamilton Academical 3 - 2 Aberdeen

Following the cancellation of Friday's Under 18 clash with Motherwell, the young Dons travelled to Lanarkshire aiming to make it three away wins on the bounce after successful road trips to Kilmarnock and Dundee United. Following his brief sojourn in charge of the first team, Scott Anderson took charge of the squad and stuck by the starting eleven who won in Dundee under Stuart Duff and Gavin Levey.

Barry Robson, serving an SFA suspension, watched the action from the stand.

The Dons were out of the traps quickly and won a free kick on the left in the opening minute, but Dylan Lobban's delivery was headed over by Blair McKenzie. They came closer just a minute later when Alfie Bavidge's clever cut-back only just evaded the inrushing Liam Harvey. A bright, enterprising start from the visitors.

Harvey didn't get enough behind his shot in the eighth minute to trouble May as the Dons continued to press, but the opening goal was coming. And it duly arrived in the 10th minute as Bavidge got on the end of a Lobban corner to net at the far post.

Accies skipper Adam McGowan seemed to catch his studs in the surface and appeared to sustain a knee injury but was able to resume after treatment. However, he was forced to retire from the fray on 18 minutes and was replaced by Sam Nicolson.

Aberdeen continued to have the upper hand and home attacks were few and far between. However, on 34 minutes, Ben Black had a great chance to equalise, but a timely block from Timi Fatona averted the danger. From the resulting corner Cian Newbery lifted the ball over, another chance passed up by Accies.

The strong running of the Dons front three of Bavidge, Emslie and Harvey was always a threat to Hamilton, but a one goal lead is never safe.

Findlay Marshall tried his luck from twenty yards, the save from May of the routine variety. Lobban had a chance to double the lead seconds from the break, but his nineteen yard free kick was just too high.

A dominant first half from the visitors, Accies however still in the game with the scoreline just 1-0.

Accies made a second change at the interval, Forsyth replacing Lyons. Fatona traced forward down the right, his parting shot powerful but off target. Bavidge then tested the keeper with another rasping shot while Lewis Latona's effort for the home side didn't trouble Jamie Shingler.

A lovely passing interchange featuring Bavidge and Lobban created a great chance for Harvey but he pulled his shot wide. Marshall was booked on 58 minutes for persistent fouling.

Another change from Accies saw Ryan One and Luke Meikle introduced in place of Liam Morgan and Black in the 61st minute.

The Dons finally got the second goal they craved on 65 minutes, Bavidge robbing Trialist A to set up Adam Emslie who made no mistake from ten yards.

Chris McGinn picked up an unnecessary booking for giving the ref a little too much backchat.

Accies got a lifeline on 68 minutes when a quick free kick from Forsyth let One in to slip the ball past an exposed Shingler. Suddenly it was game on again.

Two minutes later it was all square. A long cross was headed goalward by Nicolson, Shingler producing a fantastic save to tip the ball on to the bar. Unfortunately for the Dons, Meikle was first to the loose ball and he headed in to make it 2-2. An incredible turnaround.

On 72 minutes, Accies made their fifth and final change as Trialist C came on for Latona.

On 80 minutes, Alfie Stewart came on for Cammy Wilson, hoping to make it a hat-trick of winning goals in his third Under 18 league appearance having scored the decisive goals against Kilmarnock and Dundee United.

The strength and pace of Bavidge saw him fight his way into the Accies box but May foiled him with an excellent save.

At the other end, Nicolson headed narrowly wide as Accies chased a winner. A bizarre incident saw Fatona booked for returning to the filed after treatment apparently without the ref's say so. Scott Anderson seemed to claim the assistant ref had given permission but picked up a yellow himself for his protest.

Deep into stoppage time the seemingly impossible happened as Accies grabbed a winner, Trialist B rifling the ball home after the Dons failed to clear a corner.

A lesson learned hopefully for the Dons who appeared to have the game under their control before throwing the advantage away.
