North Eastern League

27/03/1943 | KO:

Draw at Dunfermline

ABERDEEN have won the North-Eastern League by four points. They have also the distinction of having extracted the maximum number of bonus points from the competition. In a goalless draw at Dunfermline, it was the Dons' defence whioh saved the day. The attack was very moderate, and the finishing woefully weak.

It was a stubbornly contested game throughout, but neither team played well. It was typical old-time Second Division football of the kick-and-rush order. A draw was a good result.
Both defences emerged with credit. The Dons werg solid in the rear, with Cooper, Gavin and Taylor outstanding. Praise due to Girdwood of I.T.C. for a very creditable performance in his first appearance.
Armstrong was the Dons' best forward, and Ancell was a lively winger. Pattlllo harassed the home defence, but he should have scored more than once.
The home defence was steady, with Hogg, Hart and Walker a powerful trio. Like the Dons, the Athletic attack was unbalanced. The left wing was weak. Dugan and Logie formed a good right wing.
The teams meet again at Dunfermline on Saturday in the first home-and-home game in opening round the North-Eastern League Cup.
