DONS DRAW WITH NEWCASTLE

NEWCASTLE UNITED and Aberdeen played a goalless draw in the return friendly match at Pittodrie yesterday. There were 7000 spectators. Aberdeen had the advantage territorially, but they failed to press home their attacks, several good scoring chances being missed.

It was fast and clever football throughout, but, with nothing at stake, the players did not take any risks.
The respective defences were strong. Newcastle had the better moving attack, but it lacked weight and thrust.
Johnstone in the home goal was not seriously tested. Cooper was superior to Beattie at back. All three half-backs impressed, with Dunlop oustanding.

Moderate Attack

The Dons were poorly served at inside forward after Hamilton went to centre. The internationalist was the best of a moderate attack, Dryden being handicapped through injury.
The United had a sound defence. Smith at centre-half did grand work, his headwork being particularly effective.
All five forwards were clever, and the crowd was impressed with the lively diminutive right wing pair Taylor and Highmoor. Carr distributed play well and Woodburn and Mooney made a good left wing.
