Profile:
Aberdeen are likely to have a Scottish internationalist at left back in their North-Eastern League game against Dunfermline on Saturday. He is Robert Ancell, the former St Mirren defender, who is now a Newcastle player. He is in the Army.

Wartime guest player with Aberdeen, then signed as player coach 7th January 1949 and released 30th April 1949

A l t h o u g h one of Aberdeen's most recent acquisitions, he is no stranger to Pittodrie, having guested there frequently during the war. Now in his twentieth season as a professional footballer, he has worn Scotland's colours against each of the other three countries and vividly recalls the thrill of his first 'National against Ireland at Belfast in 1937 while playing with Newcastle. A linotype operator to trade, at present he is engaged full time on football. Most embarrassing moment was as a very young senior having none-too-happy a game against David Ness of Partick, who picked the ball from touch, threw it to Bobby, and said, "Here, son, have a kick at it now!'" Angling, gardening, and golf share his interests, and, playing off 4 handicap, he was runner-up in the Scottish Professional Footballers' Tournament last summer.
