A well established player when he joined the Dons from Hearts, Eddie was signed by Jimmy Bonthrone to strengthen the defence, but was ultimately displaced by Willie Garner. Moved on in 1976 to play in Australia - where he had toured with Aberdeen in 1974 - eventually going into club management and later managed the Australian national side. From 1997 to 2000 he worked in Japan, managing Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the J League.
