Hackett was one of a number of players who came to Pittodrie from English football in the mid-late eighties as Ian Porterfield tried to fine bargains to build up his squad. Many thought the Gary was too lightweight for the Scottish game and he enjoyed few first team starts, moving on to Stoke City after half a season.
